Tis the Season

Yes it is that time of year again…

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Christmas and to thank you for being part of my life.

As you will know this year has been very difficult but I am still here, I am still living and I am beginning to thrive again.

No matter what life throws at us, we can face it and more than that we can overcome it….for those of you who don’t think I know what I am talking about, the fact that my husband was diagnosed with terminal leukemia and then four day later we lost our house to a fire and everything we owned and then less than 5 months later my husband passed away, so I think this allows me to say that we can overcome it, I am living proof of that.

I have had to walk the cancer path with the chemo thrown in, then buried my best mate, my rock, my lover and then try to rebuild first a house to live in and then a life to live.

I learnt a strange thing….the more you lose the easier it is to let go.

After the fire I thought I would hold on tightly to everything we re bought, but none of it had any memories attached and I now knew it could all be gone in just a few minutes. When my husband died I realized the fire had been preparing me for this, it taught me that you can let go and move on, you can choose to live in the here and now and enjoy every moment or dwell on everything you have lost and be miserable.

I do have the advantage that I believe we live on after this life, so to me Colin is only a thought away now and as long as I live I am living for both of us. Yes I get sad and have moments of tears, sometimes days of feeling overwhelming grief, but I also know that this will pass and I will be ok. I also have a strong faith in God (but I am not religious) and that has been a huge help in getting me through this year, just knowing that someone knew what the future held and that there was someone who loved me and had my back.

It is having beautiful people like all of you who have made me see that I still have a purpose and as the new year begins I plan to be adding things here on a regular basis.

Thankyou for all your love and support.

Have a happy holidays and a wonderful and blessed New Year.

Never alone

angels always watching over us. In the times I felt most alone, these were the times I realized that my angels were actually right there watching over me. So this is an art piece I did to show this.

Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas

Christmas Greetings

hi and a special thankyou to all my subscribers, you guys are what make my efforts worth while. I wish each and everyone of you a Happy Christmas season, if you don’t celebrate Christmas then I hope you enjoy the holiday.

this last year has been challenging with health issues for Hubby and I, so we are hoping and praying for a great 2015.

i am excited about 2015, I am trying to get a series of Quick Tips for Photographers to help you all to take great photos, but more importantly to capture great memories.

so get your cameras out, put them on portrait mode for people, or sports mode for kids, they move fast all the time, or party mode if indoors and capture those great memories.

Looking forward to continuing to share with you in 2015.

Merry Christmas to you and your family

Cheers

Julia

Christmas Time Again

I don’t know about you, but it feels like only last month I was packing away last years decorations and here it is again.

I love Christmas, not the madness of entertaining, but the lights the decorations, the fun of watching children’s eyes light up in wonder.

christmas greeetings

Merry Christmas and may it be filled with love and laughter- designed by me just for you:)

Unfortunately this is often a time of stress, frustration and tension for many adults, so today I want to encourage you to look at Christmas through a child’s eyes.

Have you been out an looked at the beautiful lights, put an evening aside to drive around and look at them or join a bus tour. This is a great way to rekindle the joy of Christmas.

Let me tell you a story, when my son was nearly 17 and hadn’t quite got his licence I said, “why don’t we go and look at some lights?” Like most 17 year old boys he wasn’t overly enthused, so I said, “why don’t you ring your girlfriend and I will pick her up and we will go together”

Well what young man will pass up a chance to spend time with his girl so he rang her and asked if she wanted to, she was so excited, she had never been and looked at the displays, but she said, “I’m already in my pajamas” I said, “don’t worry you can come as you are.”

So we went around and picked her up and she was so excited and so awestruck by the beauty of the lights and the fact that people would go to all that trouble just to please others totally blew her away. Some people think we did something great for her by picking her up and taking her with us, but what she gave us that night still brings a smile to my face whenever Christmas comes around.

Why? Because she showed us the pure joy of Christmas the wonder and magic that we can experience as adults as well as children if we allow ourselves the time to stop and take in what is around us.

Why not create a new tradition where you have a night off from the silly season and just marvel at the spectacle all around us, let our inner child out and stand in wonder and amazement.

It is as we take time out for these things that the other ‘chores’ of Christmas will come into perspective.

Christmas is a time of getting together, sharing what our years have been like, relaxing, laughing….who cares if the meal isn’t just perfect, as long as we have food to eat, who cares what we wear, we could come in our pajamas and still have fun.

Let’s choose to change our perspective this year and just enjoy the treats that come with the season and the friends and family we have around us and if we know someone who doesn’t have family around them, why not include them in yours, this is the greatest gift you can give someone.

Merry Christmas to all of you. I am hoping to do a post to give you some photo tips for Christmas day, but in the meantime…Have Fun.

There is something available that can help and is affordable.

Nearly there, keep reading…..

Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a professional coach look at your images and tell you how to get them right?

But who could afford that?

You can!!!

There is a photo course called “The Dash” it caters for beginners, intermediate and advanced.

Never alone

Trick photography, create a fantasy.

There are a few different options you can choose from so that you get what you are looking for.

For the course, which includes lessons, challenges and bonus critiques picked from each stream it is $25 for 1 stream and you get an extra discount if you choose more than 1 stream.

What is a stream? It is what you will be learning about. For October it is Portrait Photography, Flower Photography and Trick Photography. You can do just one or two streams or all three, it is entirely up to you.

Isn’t this fantastic, you can learn what you need for less than $1/day in fact it works out atĀ around only 80 cents per day!!!

But there’s more….

You can then upgrade to Gold or Platinum to have your own personal coach/ critiquer, who will look at each image you upload for the lessons and tell you what works and what doesn’t, but better than that they will teach you how to make it to work.

The critiques/coaching is tailored to your level so it doesn’t matter if you are a total beginner or a pro, there is something for everyone.

How much would it cost you to hire a professional photographer as a coach/Critiquer for a month?

A lot more than most of us could afford, so how do they do it for the Dash?

The Dash’s philosophy is to make learning available and affordable and so they have got with some professional photographers and worked out a special rate….are you ready…..

For only $79/month you can have a professional assigned to you.

You will do 8 challenges a month, so that works out at less than $10-00 an image and to top it off, you don’t just get one critique, you get to put into practice the coaching the professional gives you and upload a second image to check that you are on the right track and have understood what the coach has told you.

That means 2 images for under $10.

Why would professional photographers do this?

I can only answer for myself as I am one of the coaches/critiquers.

My love of photography is just that, a love or a passion as I call it, but I don’t just want to share my images, I want to be able to share the experience of photography, so that you can enjoy taking images, whether just for special occasion or as a hobby or if like me, you discover the joy and healing photography brings, then it will be something that becomes your passion.

I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia 7 years ago and so was very limited in what I was able to do. I was struggling with pain and feelings of worthlessness until I became re-immersed in photography, suddenly I had a purpose, there was something I could still do and I found that getting outdoors and into nature brought healing to my soul. I found even though the pain was still there, life was worth living, there was so much beauty all around us that I just had to stop and see. As my focus changed I was able to let go of disappointment and disillusionment and come to a place of peace and joy. Having done this, I realized I wanted to empower others to be able to do this to and so through the Dash I am able to achieve this.

So if you have ever thought about doing a photography course, now there is one that is affordable and worth doing.

The Dash is run by David Peterson of Digital-Photography-Secrets and is his brainchild. He sets the lessons and provides the teaching, there are then 3 other coaches/critiquers like myself and together we strive to bring you a fantastic course.

This is some of the feedback I have personally had.

Thanks for the critique Julia. It is very useful. I tried cropping it as you suggested and it is much improved. As it was a busy week I just popped the point and click in my pocket and was completely unsuccessful in getting a blurred background until I read about using the zoom as well….and it worked. I plan to practice however with my SLR camera as I like the blurred background effect and would like to experiment more with it so I am comfortable in attaining it when I want. Such a great course! I am really enjoying it! Thanks again for your help.

Ms. Julia, You are the best, I appreciate u looking into that for me. I will try the adjustments u mentioned and send u copy. May not be till this weekend when I have time. Thanks for all the help.

So click here to have a look at “The Dash”.
If you want the Professional coaching as well, it will be offered to you after you have signed up for whichever stream/s you want to.
i love this quote by Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn”
this really sums up what the Dash is all about.
I would love to see you there and have the opportunity to travel with you on the next leg of your photographic journey.
